Dr Anil Sharma and his wife, Dr Kiran Sharma, 56, have been sentenced for 15 years and 8 years respectively for cheating the US healthcare system The Texas couple billed the US government insurance programme, Medicare, Medicaid and many private healthcare providers for medical procedures that were not performed, US Attorney Jose Angel Moreno said.
An US court ordered the couple to forfeit US$43 million in cash and property they amassed through their healthcare fraud.
The couple carried out the scam between 1998 and 2009.
